The Media Resource Centre (MRC) has closed entries for the 2008 SA Short Screen Awards (SASSAs) proudly driven by Toyota.

For the first time the SASSAs will be presented in partnership with the internationally renowned Adelaide Bank Festival of the Arts – Australia!s premier arts festival.

Now in their ninth year, the SA Short Screen Awards reward excellence and outstanding achievement in the South Australian film community. The SA Short Screen Awards provide an exciting platform for filmmakers to showcase their creative and technical talents. The Awards also recognise the integral role of key creative crew in the filmmaking process.

Toyota Central Region Manager Michael Beros said “Toyota is proud to be associated with the future of the South Australian film industry. This is our third year as major sponsor of the SA Short Screen Awards and it is great we are able to extend our support even further to the arts community through the 2008 Adelaide Festival of Arts”.

“Short filmmaking in SA keeps going from strength to strength with SA short films consistently making the shortlist of the Australian Film Institute awards and other national and international short film competitions. The MRC is constantly expanding opportunities for short filmmaking with almost 50 short films made a year through various MRC production initiatives while both the South Australian Film Corporation and the Adelaide Film Festival support short film practice with investment grants. The SASSAs is a celebration of this fertile SA culture.”
- Gail Kovatseff, Director, Media Resource Centre

“The SA Short Screen Awards form an important part of the local screen cultural calendar, and are crucial in celebrating the outstanding talent in South Australia. Exposure at these awards often leads to further recognition at national and international festivals, and we are particularly proud to provide $3,000 in professional development funding to the winners of both the Best Film and Innovation in Digital Media categories.”
- Richard Harris, CEO, South Australian Film Corporation
