Want to hit a Raw Nerve?

Raw Nerve is for you.

Now in its sixth year, Raw Nerve is a joint initiative developed between the Australian Film Commission (AFC) and Screen Development Australia (SDA) aimed at assisting emerging filmmakers to showcase their filmic storytelling ability.

The scheme targets people who do not have the resources to make a film without assistance. The long-term benefits may be further development funding or pathways into the industry.

Sonya Humphries is the Supervising Producer for Raw Nerve 2007.

Each filmmaker receives $2500 in equipment and facilities from the MRC and a $3500 budget to bring their story to the screen.
The filmmakers have already been through an intensive 5 week writing workshop to develop their scripts and are moving into pre-production.

Awards

Raw Nerve  gives up to 5 South Australian first time filmmakers $3,000 cash, access to production gear, a supervising producer to see them through, mentoring and training in order to make a film.

To top it all off the completed films are also screened at the Mercury Cinema to an adoring audience of friends, family and screen industry gurus.

Applications for 2008

The MRC will be looking for filmmakers with passion, drive, ambition and commitment to participate in this unique scheme. Check with the website soon for info on the 2008 Raw Nerve

Since its inception in 2002, twenty-three Raw Nerve projects have been made in South Australia. Previous Raw Nerve filmmakers include Storm Ashwood, finalist at the prestigious St Kilda Film Festival, Trevor Wright, whose film Train Runner has been accepted into the 2006 Moscow Disability Film Festival and was nominated for six awards at the 2006 SA Short Screen Awards, and Bianca Barling, an inaugural participant, named in this year's Advertiser Top 10 Young Artists.
