16mm:  Getting back to the old school way of making film…

The films will be screened at the Mercury Cinema on August 18 as part of the SALA festival.

The aim of 16mm is to re-inspire filmmakers connection to the original celluloid – in this case 16mm film. Filmmakers will shoot, cut and project on film. Final films will be showcased at the Mercury Cinema as part of the South Australian Living Arts Week on August 18.

The Media Resource Centre’s Members Production Group has been busy behind the scenes ensuring that a vital part of screen culture is not consigned to the digital dustbin and has lined up free stock courtesy of McLeod’s Daughters and processing courtesy of Neglab.

An information day about shooting and editing 16mm will be held for all interested parties on Saturday July 14 from 11am at the Media Resource Centre.

Each film will receive up to 1000ft of 16mm short end stock, processing, a full equipment subsidy from the Media Resource Centre and some hands on support from experienced 16mm camera operators and editors.

The deadline for applications is July 20. The MPG encourages experimental and non-linear proposals.
