SAFC & MRC Tropfest Short Film Production Initiative

The Media Resource Centre and the South Australian Film Corporation have launched the Tropfest Short Film Production Initiative.

This initiative will assist South Australian filmmakers to make their best possible short film for entry into the 2009 Tropfest competition.

The Tropfest Short Film Production Initiative, a first in Australia, will give three South Australian filmmaking teams $10,000 cash each plus $5,000 in-kind access to equipment and facilities.

Applications will be received for short films in any genre that comply with the Tropfest national guidelines. Films must be no longer than 7 minutes (incl credits) and include the Tropfest Signature item, ‘Spring’. The production initiative is open to SA filmmakers, over the age of 18 and who have completed at least one independent (non-student) production.

All of the films made through the initiative will screen at the Tropfest event in Adelaide on Sunday 22 February 2009.

Entries close 5pm Friday 10 October 2008.

New Workshops Available!
Digital Storytelling, Pro Tools & Sound Design, Dance On Film and Composing For The Screen

Digital Storytelling: 29 - 31 August

We all have stories about the events, people, and places in our lives. Digital Stories are short, personal, multimedia tales, told from the heart and anyone can make them.

The materials that people work with range from family photographs to letters to home movies – whatever the participant feels is important to creating their story. Participants are led through the process step by step – previous computer knowledge is not necessary.

People can make digital stories about anything – love, work, hopes, fears, the past, even the future. The story doesn’t need to have a beginning, middle and end. What’s most important is that it shows the creator’s point of view.

At the end of the workshop, when the stories are presented, there is a bit of magic as the fruits of everyone’s labours may surprise and inspire.

Pro Tools & Sound Design: 31 August

Pro Tools is the screen industry standard for post production sound design. This day-long workshop will cover the basics of Pro Tools – from simple professional setups for home studios and recording, to more advanced editing techniques.

Composing For The Screen: 20 September

Part art, part artifice, a great movie score can give a picture a larger than life quality that elevates both the senses and the cinema. A score can impose or betray emotion, build tension or even create character out of a previously flat performance!
